Happy for You? Not!
You make the announcement about some good coming your way, but you detect an attitude from a loved one, a deep sigh from someone else, and a mumbled, "That's good." from others. What is going on with these haters? Is it really that they are hating or are they really concerned? Sometimes our folks are a mixed bag. They don't know what to say or not to say. At times they think they are being supportive when they are really not. Other times they are genuinely concerned, but simply don't know how to express it with love and kindness.
When you have a poor track record of making good decisions, quite naturally someone is going to speak up and caution you about the possibility of making yet another bad decision. If you are a winner, oftentimes making great choices, of course the haters are not going to be excited about yet another win for you. They are wrapped up in their own share of personal struggles and prefer misery to keep them company.
I'm the type that is sincerely happy for my people when they are doing well, yet behind closed doors cry when others are not. I hope and pray for the best for all whether African American or not, but know that people don't always do their best for any number of reasons.
I can clearly see that in many circles where African Americans are in leadership, running businesses, building networks, communicating across the 'Net, or organizing reunions that we need more people to encourage those who are boldly doing things that go beyond the norm and are doing quite well going above and beyond not only for self but for others too! Many of our people are operating on fumes when working, parenting, building networks, establishing bonds with partners, and more due to the lack of positivity within and around them. There are more haters than kind supporters!
So if you detect that someone isn't happy for you, don't keep that person close, find those who are doing what you are doing and appreciate them! There are just too many people in the world, no matter the ethnicity, that truly desire a quality life and you might as well surround yourself with them rather than keep negative people around, whether kin or not. Toxic people weigh you down like an anchor does with a ship. Rather than use the anchor for positive means like keeping our people from drifiting out into unknown waters without a captain, the anchor is used to maintain control by jealous folks--not allowing the successful-minded to flourish!
Welcome the doable opportunity you have been afforded! Ride the waves and have a great life!

Change Your Mind, Do What Is Right and The Good is Sure to Follow
You never know when something you hoped/prayed/wished for is going to come, but when it does finally show up, will you be ready? Too often our people are ill prepared when blessings show up.
I think of men and women who ask God for babies, but yet don't make any life adjustments that will make room for the attention, love, care and more that is required to raise a child. They continue to work long hours, attend every event imaginable, and waste money. Then when the news comes, "We're pregnant." It isn't long before the happy news wears off and now a couple is arguing about things like: prenatal appointments, baby products, money, and everything else related to family.
You might be one of many looking out for some good things to happen in your life. Have you gave up anything while you wait? For some of us, the wait has been much longer than anticipated because we permitted distractions to get us off focus, we didn't always follow wise counsel, we fought with people who only had our best interests in mind, and more. Therefore, the more unprepared you are, the longer you have to wait. Some blacks didn't bother to give up anything to get something, so they have been hit with everything from illness to dysfunctional appliances in homes they love more than God!
Our people are rich with material goods, but poor with wisdom. Our people think they know much, but know very little. Many of our relatives and friends are foolish, liars and lazy. They say one thing, but do another. Looking at the size of many African Americans, it is clear to see that like hogs, they eat everything in site, but wisdom. So it isn't any wonder when knowledge is preached, black folks are too tired to listen!
Anything you want to accomplish in life, you must change your mindset! This is also true when it comes to spirituality, wellness, finances, marriage, parenting, business planning, and more. If you are unwilling to change your mind first, followed by making necessary sacrifices, and waiting on blessings rather than just jumping out there and doing whatever you want, don't wonder why nothing you touch never turns into gold. Besides, if you are a child of God, you know better than to believe that a mere mortal has a Midas touch anyway.

They Say They Can't Get Ahead - What has Black History Really Taught Us
No matter how difficult life may be, somehow some way our people survive! Is this what black history has taught us? Well, if one doesn't bother to learn more about one's own history, doesn't read anything encouraging about someone else's history, and prefers to spend more time worried about the next bill, next confrontation, and what the next celebrity is up to, how can he or she really get ahead?
What is getting ahead anyway? Is it more money, more house, more cars, new job, new location, improved body, new mindset...all of the above?
Problems mount and many of our people drown for lack of knowledge. They never bothered to look up their dilemma on the Internet, sit down with a professional, or do the necessary footwork to get their issues resolved. They were easily distracted by everything but focusing on what really matters which is getting ahead!
When I look back on American black history that has been presented on this site and others, I see a multitude of good and bad, winners and losers, sane and insane individuals and groups that didn't always help others to achieve. Some systematically followed their masters' many directives to help further oppress a people, that for many decades, has been mentally challenged, economically disadvantaged, and socially challenged. And I must say, it hurts, because sometimes the more things change, the more they stay the same!
Many of our people are rebellious, prideful, and believe that they know how to do this and that while peddling a product that they think they know, befriending someone that they believe loves him or her, or worse trusting in a powerless god or gods while living an ungodly lifestyle. "Rub this thing for luck, go to this place for peace, eat this thing and it should help..." our people advise one another on things they never bothered to research, do themselves, and don't know the facts about! Some who know better call this sort of behavior, "Ignorant, foolish and stupid!"
Getting ahead takes work, lots of work! When suggestions are made to do more than what one is already doing, some of our people respond with deep sighs and eye-rolls. Others play like they didn't hear or didn't know. "Come again, you want me to do what? How much more are you going to pay me? I don't feel like doing that...Now what all do you want me to do, because I don't have the money or the time? Oh, that's too much! Girl, I don't know all those big words, I can't remember all 'dat!" This is what some black folks who are trying to get ahead say! Now does that sound like getting ahead kind of talk!?
Black history month reminds us of many blacks who not only did, could have and should have! You don't hear those stories! Not every black person who has gone before us got things right, contrary to all of the bragging that goes on during this time of the month many black folks got things all wrong, yet we can learn from them too! For starters, think of the many entertainers who sold their souls to the devil! They missed out on so much! So what they are the first black to do this or that! They could have helped so many including freeing brainwashed minds, but personal desperation during those moments of trying to get ahead has now caused them to walk dead!
Take a moment to look up those who failed within and out of your family and ask yourself, "Am I repeating the cycle? What do I still need to do to get ahead? What have I already done that has caused much distress for self and family? How can I teach others to do what's morally right to get ahead? What am I willing to give to motivate others?"

Listen to the words for those of you in battle! Pray. It doesn't have to turn out the way they say, it doesn't have to end because the paper say, it doesn't have to be this way because someone said...God blocked it!
I Got You!
Three simple words can bring so much peace to a troubled soul, "I got you." If you have ever been in a situation you know how it feels when someone says, "Don't worry about it...I got you." You might have had that person's back when they were down so he or she can't help, but want to be there for you during your trial. But people, like that, are few. The truth of the matter is we live in a very selfish world.
When your back is up against the wall, most people say, "Sorry man...wish I could help, but I am going through..." This is why, for some, they have a faith, because for far too long people have let them down, so what might a supernatural force do for them? There is no brother or sisterhood that is going to do much for them, but ask, "What have you done lately for us?"
If you are that one who is reading this that just wants some peace of mind--you just need to know that someone has your back, don't just sit there wondering, this is your time to test the spirits. That's right, make that phone call and see who sincerely has your back. Move pride out the way! Find out what you can learn about your current situation right here online. Seek some wise counsel from those who have been in your shoes. You might have to go outside of your network and look up some people in the yellow pages. How do you really know whether there is help if you haven't tested no one or nothing? I can tell you that name it and claim it messages and prosperity gospels don't do much but take your money away. I am one for asking the one who is making the claim to put something in my pocket and not the other way around!
The other day I was talking to a brother who seemed to have given up some hope about things going on his life. He was quick to talk about what won't work and what someone told him and on and on. It was sad to hear that this man had reached a place where he could no longer see the light at the end of the tunnel. All I could do was keep directing him to the solutions and what might happen if he kept choosing to do the same things only to get the same results. He needed to step out of his comfort zone and make some changes. But he wasn't willing to give up anything to make those changes, so you can pretty much determine that from this brother's dilemma he was going to stay hopeless. Throw in the fact that he didn't have much faith in a Creator either.
Sometimes we get tired of keeping our hopes up about people, opportunities, things, etc. but we have to keep working anyway, believing, making sacrifices, and more. Will things really work out? That's up to you, it all depends on what you believe is "work out." Things can work out for bad or for good, but it is up to you to see the positive in every situation.
We can find a million plus individuals that will tell us why someone or something doesn't work, can't be done and ain't right, but sometimes all we need is a few that will stay strong for us and say, "It can be done...it will be done...things are going to work out...you must believe!"
So if you need someone to just say, "I got you..." Then may the prayers of the righteous go up and the blessings come down sooner rather than later on your situation. Know this, the Maker of this Universe got you!

Keeping the Drama Inside Your Head Going? Rise Above It
We all got drama! Just the other day I had to break a few things down to someone I know. As my mother once told me, “Your word is your bond.” Until actions manifest, that’s all we have when relating to people, our words. If we drop the ball, well anything can happen. So here I am, thinking about the drama all around me one day and I am just working it around in my head like a tornado. Everything was starting to spin out of control, until I caught myself. I didn’t want to feel negative and angry all over again about events that had transpired. So I made a choice, “Not today!”
Sometimes we keep the drama going, by getting mama and ‘em involved. We start doing things prematurely without thinking. We may have cussed a few folks out or worse yelled at the Most High. We lose all self-control! We don’t see beyond our situations. We make things bigger than what they are. Then when it comes time to rejoice in the victories, we can’t even smile, not even a little bit, because we spent so much time worrying.
Some worries will occur in this life and we won’t always successfully get over them. However, when you find issues affecting the rest of your life, it’s time to check with a doctor, learn more about anxiety and depression, research natural remedies for worry, and most of all, plan to change some things in your diet and surroundings to keep some of the drama down!
If I had continued to think about the foolish, the weird, the strange and the “what-if” in my situations, who knows, I probably would have caused a heart attack. There just isn’t anything you can do about the things you have no control over--nothing! Yet, when it comes to yourself, you have all the power! You can make your feet walk away from a situation. You can pack up your bags to keep from hurting someone. You can create a plan to get you out of a miserable relationship, household, and/or job. Most importantly, you can pray.
I recall a phrase an uncle gave me once typewritten on paper, it read, “Rise Above It.” Whatever your “it” is in this life, rise above it, my friend. Whatever tool you need to get “above” utilize it!
