If I have yet to envision what my future looks like and I have no supportive group around me who can at least guide me toward the light, then what am I to become? Do I take up my reigns and fight solo? Do I move beyond my circumstances and create a plan that sustains me?
We, black people, don't often think deeply for we fear the future while running from the past. We don't easily forgive when people hurt us and we believe that somehow we are empowered by our stubborn ways and tough talk. We are a prideful people, but at times very foolish. We entertain ourselves during times when we should be in deep meditation and fasting from the pleasures of this world while noting our failures and listing ways we should improve. One can claim that he serves an Almighty God but if he does then why is his life in shambles? We brag about things we do not understand while praising idol worshipping leaders who have fallen down on knees behind closed doors and who have allowed despicable acts to occur in the names of their dark gods. If he, she or "it" has a price tag, we consider "it" to be successful, admirable, wonderful, and the one who wears "it" accomplished.
But I say to you my friends, that it is not what a man wears, who he claims to believe in, where he lives, or what he drives that defines him, but it is what comes out of his mouth that reveals the soul. If he speaks as if he knows, when he really doesn't know things such as: life purpose, relationship advice, spiritual guidance, and parenting, he is deceiving the hearers while using words he has studied in books to disguise his misdeeds.
Do you know who you are? Do you know what your calling is or have you created a calling and asked your Creator to approve it? How long does one have to walk around in circles like the Israelites setting out on a journey that should have only been 40 days that turned out to be 40 years!
I write this on the 40th year of my life and I recognize that for far too long I have permitted the ignorant, the foolish, the liar, the deceiver, the cheat, the crazy, and even the sexy to advise me on things that have little to do with my life and everything to do with theirs. Its as if they were recruiting me to walk in darkness with them, but I have long been called to be free and to walk in the light.
What is truly important, before we close our eyes, is what our heavenly Father has convicted us on during our waking hours--that thing that keeps tugging at your heart, popping into your mind, causing you to have an instant attitude because you have yet to take care of business God's way.
We are responsible for us, we are on assignment to come up higher and direct others to do the same.
Do what you must to live a righteous life, without excuse, while living in a good and evil spirit-filled world.
May God bless you for reading this.
