When you talk with deceptive people, some will smile and act respectful while hiding hidden agendas in their minds and hearts. Others will react just like they are, devilish. They have jealous stares, don't smile, and often curse about one thing or another. Those that are shady are cold-hearted and would like nothing more than to take your possessions and hard-earned money while bragging to others how they played you. So how do you know which family members are truly in your corner and which ones are not?
1. You heard about their negative reputation from others. Don't think they will make an exception for you because you grew up together. They typically don't like any one in the family who is successful when they are still struggling. Sure, they might grin in your face, slap you on the back and say "I love you," but these fools are as crooked as their teeth!
2. They have far too many excuses for the stuff they do when confronted. They spend money they aren't supposed to, they go places that they shouldn't, and they place blame on everyone else, but themselves. These lying folks are never to be trusted. Sooner or later they will slip up and you will catch them playing you or someone else.
3. They have many things, but can never tell you where they got them or how much they paid for them. These slick folks usually have long stories they tell while eyes are shifting, hands are moving, and feet are shuffling. Thieves will never be straight up with you!
4. You or others are often a target for borrowing money or contributing to one of their fast money ideas. What usually ends up happening is someone or a group is being tricked by the shady relative and now they need some help to get out of his or her mess.
5. They put spouses, children and other relatives to do their dirty work. From stealing your children's toys to lying on applications, whatever the shady relative needs he or she will enlist the help of "family." Those stupid enough to go along will do just that i.e.) tax season--need I say more. Unfortunately, some will be brainwashed into taking the fall later.
When you know that people in your family, like the ones previously described, avoid falling into their traps! Don't assume because they are your "favorite," a pastor, teacher, attorney, healthcare worker, city council person, or in some other reputable position that they are straight. These predators are just looking for someone naive enough to be their protege, apprentice, worker, or slave to get their shady business done. Don't sleep on wisdom!
